Facebook vetoes Bingo: Says online gambling morally unacceptable

Sunday, December 27, 2009

Facebook has released a statement online declaring a revision in their advertising policies claiming that they find online gambling and websites like bingo morally unacceptable. Facebook has also declared that it will show no leniency and take a tough ground on this issue by imposing a ban on online gambling that includes the without limitation feature, online casinos, poker, bingo and sports books. Other entities that have found a place on the banned list are fire arms, tobacco products, nudity, spy cameras, pyramid schemes, adult toys and uncertified pharmaceuticals. Dairy products were also featured in the list which shocked many, but Facebook later said that they will be lifting the ban of this particular entity.

Many have questioned the ban despite online Bingo being legalized in the UK and Bingo advertisements regulated by the government. The largest search engine on the web, Google, however said that it would permit gambling advertisement within the UK. The ban have been imposed considering the fact that the America based social networking website might not want to risk facing legal consequences for supporting online gambling and indulging in malicious practices of promoting such advertisements.

It was also noted by web experts that a search on Facebook by putting in the keyword Bingo displayed an astounding 623 pages and multiple applications. There are a lot of bingo websites operating out of the UK that have a link connecting them to Facebook. These bingo websites also use Facebook in their internet marketing campaigns, where cash prizes are offered to the chosen winners and results displayed on the social media website. Experts have condemned the incident saying that Facebook is closing ties with a market that promises very high rewards and is losing out on huge advertising opportunities.

Having mentioned, it is still up to Facebook to reconsider the ban and decide whether this plays into their best of interests or not.

Lucky Player wins £100k Bingo Jackpot at Mecca Bingo

Thursday, November 5, 2009

Mecca Bingo’s luckiest online bingo player dreamer80 scoops £100k by bingoing in under 35 calls.  Last week Mecca Bingo launched on to our TV screens with new advert which featured lucky pink boxes and £50 free play offer.  To mark the launch of their advert Mecca also introduced a new jackpot of £100k and guaranteed that it would be won before the 8th of November.  Well they have been as good as their word as one lucky bingo player has just won the jackpot.  By calling full house in 35 calls on a 90 ball bingo game the player, named only as dreamer80, walked away with the pot of over £100k in cash. What would you do with £100k in cash?  There are few details available at the moment as to which room and on what game the money was one (but stay tuned as soon as we know we let you know).

Also celebrating this win are the players who were in the room and playing bingo at the same time as the jackpot was won.  Each of those players will be sharing in a bonus money pot of £10,000, just for being in the right place at the right time.  Most games at mecca bingo have under 100 players in them so it is likely that the members sharing in the pot will be walking away with over £100 in free bingo money.

Northern Ireland Bingo Hall Laws to be Reviewed

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Bingo players in Northern Ireland may be permitted to play bingo at their local halls on Sundays. A review of the law is apparently in the works, and Social Development Minister of Northern Ireland, Margaret Richie has stated that there is a need to update these laws as they are “not robust enough to deal with modern gambling”. Lady Luck Smiles on Abergele Resident with Bingo Cashpot

Sunday, October 25, 2009

A lucky lady from Abergele, Wales, has had all her dreams come true after winning more than £67k from just a 25p bet on Gala Bingo.

The winning player managed to hit the jackpot on the leading online bingo site's popular ‘Galaxy Bingo' side game.

Initially the 49-year-old, who was playing two games simultaneously, thought she had won a prize of £400. It was only after clicking back to check the Galaxy Bingo screen that she realised she had actually scooped the progressive ‘cashpot' and won the life-changing amount of £67,400!

She said: “I was on the edge of my seat and was amazed to win! I thought I had only won £400 and would've been happy with that, so to win this much is incredible. I'm planning to have a new driveway installed and treat my family which wouldn't have been possible before.”

Lesley Hall, PR manager at Gala Bingo said: “We're absolutely thrilled for her - especially as it came from just a 25p stake! We really hope she enjoys treating her family and are delighted she's now able to undertake her home improvements.”

Since its launch in March 2009, Galaxy Bingo has become one of the most popular online scratchcard games on galabingo.com. Players can choose their stake amount and have two cards in play. The aim is to make a row, column or diagonal line from the 15 balls drawn. The cashpot is won if all the 15 number balls appear gold.
